Very recently The XX has been making their way in to the headlines and moving up in the American music industry. I honestly had never heard of them until my co-worker mentioned that she was going to see them a few nights ago. The XX is an English based band which was formed in London in 2005. The Indie Pop Trio consists of Romy Madley Croft (guitar/vocals), Oliver Smith (bass/vocals), and Jamie Smith (beats/production). 4 years after their formation they dropped their debut album XX (August 2009), which has had much success. The debut album XX received so much praise that it ranked #9 on the best of the year list featured in Rolling Stone Magazine. In 2009 the band headlined their very first tour. They have toured with numerous acts such as Friendly Fires and The Big Pink. In 2010, the band was asked to perform at the All Tomorrow’s Music Festival in England and have since played many U.S. Festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits! After much success with their first album, the band began writing for the follow up. They then released their second album Coexist in September of 2012. After the album release they played the biggest show of their career at Bestival in South England. They finally began touring in North America in October 2012. In November 2016, they announced that their third studio album I See You would be released on January 13, 2017. You can hear the single “On Hold” from the album I See You here!

Known for his incredibly outstanding covers on YouTube (many with over a million views), Conor Maynard is making his way to the top in the world of music. Known for covers like Work (Rihanna), Marvin’s Room (), and Pillowtalk (Zayn), Conor never seems to disappoint. Conor was born in 1993 in Brighton, England to a hard working family. He always knew that he loved music but didn’t find out just how far he could take it until 2006. He uploaded his first video on May 19, 2006 and over 10 years later he is still posting regularly. His first post was a cover of the song Breathe by British musician Lee Carr. It wasn’t long until record labels started to notice him. His life dramatically changed when Neyo watched Conor’s video cover of his song Beautiful Monster. He then contacted Conor and became his official mentor. Shortly after he was signed to EMI/Parlophone and Turn First management. After much guidance, Conor released his first original single Can’t Say No. In November 2011 he was nominated for MTV’s Brand New award which he won in 2012. He then began working on his debut solo album Contrast. In the meantime, Conor released his first music video for his single Can’t Say No which now has over 14 million views. After listening to his single you may think he’s the next Justin Bieber but Conor constantly disputes that statement. His album Contrast was soon released in July 2012. Fast forward to 2016; Due to his success doing covers Conor finally announced that he would be releasing an album of covers and one original track. A few of the covers include Pillowtalk (which you can hear here!), One Dance, Hello, and Stitches. The album was released on August 6, 2016. I happened to come across this band a long time ago but they deserve to be heard by you guys. Moon Taxi is an American indie/progressive rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. They were formed in 2006 by Trevor Terndrup (vocals/guitar), Spencer Thomson (guitar/programming), Tommy Putnam (bass), Wes Bailey (keys), and Tyler Ritter (drums). Despite forming in 2006, Moon Taxi became a signed band in 2007. At this time, Trevor, Spencer, Tommy, and Tyler actually formed their own record label 12th South Records which was housed in their 12th Avenue South home. After recording their first album Melodica in 2007 the band began to gain popularity. They started winning bids for spots at the 2008 Summer Camp Music Festival in Illinois and the 10,000 Lakes Festival in Minnesota. Their second album Live Ride was recorded live and contained nearly 30 songs, both new and old. The Live Ride release party/show was their first ever sold out show in Nashville. After their sellout show they began to take off as a band. They were offered festival appearances and even did a nationwide tour in 2010 where they traveled from Maine to California. In 2010, Moon Taxi began writing new material for their LP Cabaret which was recorded in Thomson’s studio at home. Cabaret had a different sound than their previous albums being that it had more of an electronic influence with a little bit of folk and hip-hop. Cabaret was released on February 7, 2012 and did very well with most critics giving it a 4.5 out of 5 stars. They toured across the country and even made an appearance at the 2012 Bonnaroo Music Festival. In September of 2013, Moon Taxi released their third studio album called Mountains Beaches Cities. It featured 10 tracks which were produced by Moon Taxi’s very own Spencer Thomson. In 2015, Moon Taxi realeased another hit album called Daybreakers and its been nothing but tours and album promotion since. You can listen to the hit “Year Zero” from the album Daybreakers here! One of my favorites from the Daybreakers album is All Day All Night which you can listen to by following the previous link. If you like what you hear then I have some good news! Moon Taxi will be touring across the U.S. during June & July so get your tickets now!

In my blog post today I’m stoked to introduce the new Post Rock band Originally Nowhere. Originally Nowhere is a rock band which was created in Montreal but is now based out of Bayonne, France (It’s crazy because my boyfriend has actually been there and we’re from Texas). The 5 piece band consists of Damien Lagouardette (guitar/vocals), Camille Louvet (keys and guitar), Antoine Le Roux (guitar), Laura Dupuy (bass guitar), and Paolo Bagatinn (drums). Their musical influences are just as badass as they are and include The Pixies, Nirvana, Depeche Mode, Tool, and System of a Down. If interested you can catch their show on May 6, 2017 at the Surf FM Rock Party at Le Circus in Capbreton, France. Take a minute and check out their newly released music video for the track “Working Late” from the album Dark Horizon. You can watch it here!

Alright, No lie, my boyfriend always sends me the best music. Last week he sent me a song on Youtube and my god it describes both of us perfectly. We both have our own problems so overall that’s what makes us so great for each other. I fell in love with Julia Michaels the moment I heard her voice. Julia Carin Cavazos is a 23 year old singer, songwriter who was born in Iowa but has since relocated to California. She goes by the stage name Julia Michaels. She is signed to Republic Records and has collaborated with many well known artists such as Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, Zedd, Justin Bieber and etc. She began singing at just 12 years old and eventually met with songwriters Joleen Belle and Lindy Robbins to write a very famous Demi Lovato song called “Fire Starter.” After much success she had the opportunity of a lifetime and performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Julia’s inspirations include Fiona Apple, Paramore, Juliet Simms, and The Fray. After being a songwriter for so long she finally released her first solo single called “Issues” in January 2017. While writing “Issues” Julia states that she felt like the song was truly hers and she just had to record it under her name instead of selling it to someone else. “Issues” now has over 21 million views on Youtube making it an instant hit. Give it a listen here!

So I just came across this amazing Indie Pop Band from Sydney, Australia called Middle Kids. Middle Kids is a trio and features Hannah Joy, soloist Tim Fitz, and Harry Day. I knew this would be a hit when I heard the vocals in the popular track “Edge of Town.” Unfortunately you probably won’t be able to catch them on tour anytime soon because they just ended a 2 month tour today. The last show is tonight (4/24/2017) at the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney. You can check out their single “Edge of Town” here. If you like what you hear then I also recommend listening to the track “Never Start” which can be heard here. If you enjoy Middle Kids more info can be found at www.facebook.com/middlekidsmusic
Hope you love them as much as I do.
So I’m still stuck on Seattle and love the music that comes from this place. When my boyfriend and I were driving to Port Angeles for a day trip we were amazed by the Seattle radio stations. They played some good stuff!! Not the same song over and over again like on the regular Top 40 stations or stations like The Beat (Main Stream Hip Hop). So in this blog I’m featuring the band Deep Sea Diver, a Seattle based Indie Rock/Folk band. The bands first full length album History Speaks was self-released and debuted in February 2012. Lead singer Jessica Dobson was a solo artists at first and signed with Atlantic Records when she was just 19 years old. She recorded two albums with Atlantic but wasn’t satisfied with the final products so Atlantic shelved the two albums. She then recorded a solo album under the name Deep Sea Diver and later brought in John Raines on bass and Peter Mansen on drums. In February 2012, Jessica also became a member of the well known band The Shins but she left the band in 2013 because she wanted to spend more time working on and performing her own music. You can view Deep Sea Diver tour dates and more at their website www.thedeepseadiver.com
You can listen to their new album Secrets here
Hope you like them as much as I do. Enjoy!
